AUKI Police will be dispatching a team to investigate a roadblock that occurred last week in Alarua, West Kwaio.
A group of young men from the area made the roadblock on Monday.
Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, based in Buma in West Kwaio, were on their way to Afutara to pay school fees for students when they encountered the blockade.
According to reports, the youths, who were under the influence of alcohol, obstructed the road.
“We only learned about the roadblock when Sister Marta stopped and called for help,” a local woman said.
“Our community elders will deal with the boys who were involved in this act,” she added.
Catechist John Lefo, along with other community members, came to the aid of the sisters and helped clear the road.
Malaita Provincial Police Commander Tex Tafoa said his office did not receive any report about the incident.
However, he stated that officers will be sent to the site tomorrow to carry out an investigation.
“This type of behaviour is a crime. The police will take this matter seriously and are prepared to arrest those involved in this illegal activity.”
Community leaders from nearby areas have also strongly condemned the roadblock.
