AUKI police in Malaita province have kicked off their festive season operation with traffic check operation.
This operation is part of their effort to prevent road accidents in the province during this festive session.
Acting Malaita Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Timothy Apaisi told this paper yesterday, the police traffic check is part of the monthly traffic check ups.
“But this time it coincides with the festive season general police operation in Malaita.”
He said truck overloading is still a problem in Malaita and he encourages parents to be wise and stay out of overloaded vehicles when travelling with their children.
He also warned vehicle owners to take full responsibility of the safety of their passengers and warned them not to drink and drive to avoid accidents.
Mr Apaisi encouraged vehicle owners to make sure that their vehicles are road worthy with valid licences and abide by the traffic safety rules.
“Police will continue with its task to make sure people enjoy their holidays here in Auki and Malaita province in general.”
