For the first time in the history of Betikama Adventist College (BAC) located East of Honiara, it now have proper fencing around the girls’ dorm, thanks to the Australian Government.
A formal handing over ceremony was held Tuesday 21st October at the college officially marking the completion of a new 410-metre security fence constructed around the girl’s premises.
Funded by the Australian Government through the Solomon Islands – Australia Community Partnerships program, the project aims to enhance the safety, well-being, and learning environment for female students at the school.
The initiative was one of a record 100 projects supported under the bilateral partnership in 2024, underscoring the shared commitment to education and community development between Australia and Solomon Islands.
Students, teachers, staff, supporters and guests witnessed the ceremony.
The ceremony which commenced at 10am, featured remarks from College Principal Bevan Tutuo, Minister for Education and Human Resources Development Tozen Leokana, and Acting Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Mr. Andrew Schloeffel.
They were joined by other officials representatives from the Australian High Commission office.
The infrastructure investment represents a significant step in supporting girls’ education and empowerment in Solomon Islands and highlights the ongoing partnership between the two nations in building safer and more inclusive educational environments.
