PRESIDENT of the Malaita Provincial Council of Women (MPCW), Rebecca Awa, has joined leaders and football fans across the country in congratulating the Solomon Islands National Women’s Football Team for their recent historic victory in the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2025.
The national team secured a remarkable 3-2 win over defending champions Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the grand final held on Saturday night, marking a proud moment in the history of Solomon Islands football.
Describing the result as “historic,” Mrs Awa said, the team’s success demonstrates that women and girls can rise above expectations and achieve greatness in sports.
“This victory is a result of teamwork, commitment, and contribution from every member of the squad.
“Congratulations to our women’s national soccer team for securing a place in the records of the OFC. This win is truly remarkable.”
She further acknowledged the team’s efforts and determination.
“Each one of you has showcased your skills and talents in extraordinary ways. You are not forgotten; you’ve shown the nation and the region that our women can go beyond limits.”
The victory is being hailed as a turning point for women’s football in the Solomon Islands and a source of inspiration for young girls across the country.
