Bad road condition is the main factor that lead to many road accidents in Auki, Malaita Province this year.
Malaita Premier Peter Channel Ramohia raised this following a road accident last Thursday morning at Dorukua hill in Central kwara’ae.
Mr Ramohia said, last week he went to North Malaita and he saw the road conditions in the area which was really in a bad condition.
“There are many potholes and drain that needs quick repair”.
Mr. Ramohia said, many drivers in and around Malaita, are facing mechanical problems due to the bad road conditions experience for so long.
“If all the road conditions around the province are perfect it would not lead to such accidents and mechanical faults.”
He urged the national government in partnership with the provincial government to quickly consider the road infrastructure this year.
He said, road access is the very important before any development could take place in Malaita.
“Without road access there nothing is going to happen,” Mr Ramohia said.
Meanwhile on behalf of the Malaita provincial government would like to pass his condolences to the two men that die in the accident.
The incident occurred after the three tonne truck carrying loads of timbers and passengers stopped as it attempts to climb Dorukua hill due to mechanical problem.
As a result the truck reversed back forcing all the passengers to jump off in all directions. In the process of jumping off, some of the timbers slipped back and hit two of the men who died.
