Bavaqole Chief, Philip Viuru, has expressed profound gratitude to national and provincial leaders for their ongoing commitment to the development and welfare of his people, particularly in supporting plans to establish a new Rural Training Centre (RTC) school on Bava Island.
In an address during the ground breaking of the proposed RTC School in Bava Island on Wednesday Chief Viuru highlighted support from Government and other institutions.
Chief Viuru acknowledged the pivotal role played by the national government through the Office of the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Vella Lavella.
“At this juncture, on behalf of my people, I would like to sincerely thank the Honourable Member of Parliament (MP) for North Vella Lavella, Hon. Clezy Rore, for the support given to us last year,” Chief Viuru stated.
He said the assistance provided by atx payers through the MP was comprehensive and instrumental to community progress.
The support covered key areas including logistical assistance for community initiatives, facilitation of consultations and dialogue processes, and backing for site visits and research activities relating to the proposed RTC school development.

Looking ahead, Chief Viuru said the community is hopeful for strengthened collaboration.
“We look forward to stronger support this year as we continue working towards establishing the RTC school for our children and future generations,” he said.
While national-level support has been consistent, Chief Viuru noted that formal engagement with the provincial government is the next step for the community.
“At the provincial level, we are yet to make formal dialogue. It is in the pipeline,” he explained.
However, he welcomed the presence of provincial representatives at the grassroots level, acknowledging the support of the two Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs), the Ward Member, and other local leaders.
“We appreciate the presence of our Ward Member and leaders today and look forward to working collaboratively within established protocols,” he added.
Beyond infrastructure and logistics, Chief Viuru emphasized the importance of strengthening the local education system to ensure the success of the proposed RTC school.
He confirmed that the community is currently engaged in active consultations with the Western Province Education Authority (WPEA) and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD).
The discussions are focused on teacher preparation, compliance with institutional requirements, and ensuring that all necessary standards are met to improve the quality of education for children in the region.
Chief Viuru reiterated that education remains a top priority for the people of Bavaqole and expressed optimism that, with continued government and institutional backing, the vision for the new RTC school will soon become a reality.
