THE crocodile believed to have taken the little boy at Singe Village in Northeast Guadalcanal may still be alive and out there somewhere.
Police Commissioner Matthew Varley at his weekly conference on Thursday said there is risk the get-away crocodile is out there.
“The crocodile we believed was wounded and shot at the time by the Police Response Team (PRT),” Mr Varley said.
“But we have not had any reports it surfaced anywhere,” he added.
The PRT late last month shot the crocodile but they were not able to confirm if it was dead because it moved away and disappeared into the sea.
Mr Varley said it is possible it swam off somewhere and died later.
“We don’t know.
“At this stage, we have not recovered the body of it,” he added.
The police chief further added that there is risk the crocodile is still out there and asked people to pay care and attention at the waterways.
He urged people to report any crocodile sighting to the police.
The boy aged about five to six was reportedly attacked by a crocodile while swimming in a pool (creek) near Singe Village on 28 May this year.
Police have so far already found few pieces alleged to belong to the missing boy’s body and clothes.
Those pieces have been put in a coffin for proper burial last month.
Any reports of crocodile sightings can be made to the Tetere police on phone 34508, the Henderson Police on phone 36200 or the police emergency line 999.
