A woman has been sent on Wednesday to serve 30 days in prison after she failed to pay up her fines, in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court.
Bridgette Ngalena was arrested on 20 April, 2015 for selling betel nut, fruit leaf and cigarettes at various spots in Honiara.
She pleaded guilty to the two counts of hawking in a public place without a hawker’s licence on 25 June, 2015 and was fined a total of $250 in default of 20 days imprisonment.
The fines were ordered to be paid before 29 June 2015.
She however did not pay up the fines and was re-arrested.
The court extended the due date to pay up her fine to 14 August 2015.
The accused was however arrested again yesterday for committing fresh offence whilst she was yet to pay up her fines.
She pleaded guilty to two new charges of hawking in a public place without a hawker’s licence.
The court seeing that she failed to pay up her previous fine ordered that she serve a total of 30 days in prison.
