Newly ordained Bishop of the Auki Catholic Diocese, Jacob Aba, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Tanagai Parish and leaders from Guadalcanal both provincial and national for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
Before his ordination he spent most of his missionary work at Tanagai Parish in North West Guadalcanal
“You have shown me what it means to be a vibrant, living church.
The lessons of love and community I learned among you will guide me in my new role,” Bishop Aba said.
Father Jacob Aba, originally from Baegu in Malaita Province, was officially ordained as the Catholic Bishop of the Auki Diocese in a ceremony in Auki attended by around 400 Catholics from Guadalcanal and Honiara.
Father Aba had served under the Society of Mary, Tanagai Parish.
During his time there, he built strong ties with parishioners and local leaders, earning widespread respect for his dedication to both the church and the wider community.
In a gesture of appreciation, the people of Guadalcanal presented Bishop Aba with a chupu, a traditional gift, in honour of his years of service to the Catholic Church in the province.
Bishop Aba also extended thanks to everyone involved in organising his ordination, promising that they will always remain in his prayers.
As he begins his mission in the Auki Diocese, Bishop Aba brings with him experience, faith, and a strong commitment to nurturing the Catholic community across the Solomon Islands.
