The Solomon Islands Young Legal Professionals Association (SIYLPA) was officially launched in Honiara on Wednesday night.
The launching took place at Heritage Park Hotel, marking a major step in supporting young lawyers in the country. The event was attended by Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer and Lady Palmer, along with other key legal professionals.
In an interview, SIYLPA Secretary, Ms. Janet Rerese, highlighted the association’s purpose and vision:
“Our goal is to create a community where young legal professionals can connect, gain exposure, and grow in their careers. This platform will help address the challenges we face, such as limited job opportunities, lack of mentorship, and professional development gaps.”
Her message emphasized the importance of mentorship, networking, and advocacy in strengthening the legal profession and creating better opportunities for young lawyers in the Solomon Islands.
SIYLPA first executive committee includes:
- President: Jean Uwesi
- Vice President: Richard Bosamata
- Secretary: Janet Rerese
- Treasurer: Hazel Kure
- Ordinary Members: Telisha L. Tito, Karlson Kaekesa, and Alex Taupea
Funded by the Australian Government through DFAT, SIYLPA is committed to equipping young legal professionals with the support they need to thrive in their careers.
Most of the members are recent law graduates who are yet to secure jobs. Through this association they can work together to support each.
