HONIARA residents accessing water from Solomon Water have been cautioned to boil water before using it.
Solomon Water in a public announcement said, the current bad weather had their dirt infiltration at the water source, which causes turbidity.
Because of water is unsafe for drinking.
However, Solomon Water advises customers to boil all drinking waters.
SIWA expressed regret for what had happened and urged customers to listen our for further advice.
Meanwhile Chief Public Health Laboratory from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) Dickson Manongi reiterated the need to always boil water before drinking.
He said since dengue fever outbreak is uncontrollable at this time at the National Referral Hospital, its important to avoid diarrhoea outbreak, by taking heed of the warning from Solomon Water.
“Drinking water could be boiled for five minutes, and then left to warm before drinking.”
He added that testing done so far for the water shows that it is unsafe at this stage for drinking due to turbidity.
Manongi also cautioned that after this rainy weather, it is likely for the country to experience diarrhoea outbreak.
Therefore, he urged the public to always boil water before drinking or to fetch rain water for drinking.
