MEMBERS of the Solomon Islands Melanesian School Debate team have been encouraged to do their best and bring back the trophy of the MSD (Melanesian School Debate) competition currently held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea this week.
Solomon Islands is being represented by Isaac Barley, Jessica Parapolo, Denmark Pahu and Tanya Wickham at the ten days event which started yesterday.
Speaking to the team before their departure, Parliamentary Civic Education Officer, Marissa Pepa encouraged the students to do their uttermost best and do the nation proud by bringing back the MSD trophy to our shores.
Ms Pepa added that Solomon Islands is indeed well represented in the four students.
“We believe in these students and we know they will do us proud,” she said.
Solomon’s debate team leader, Isaac Barley said that they will do their best to do the nation proud whether they do come back with the trophy or not.
“We are well prepared and we hope to win. However we know that the next few days of debates and the topics will not be easy, however like we said, all four of us will do our best for the nation,” he said.
Solomon Islands took on Vanuatu in their first debate yesterday, however the results were not yet made available to us before print.
They will take on host nation Papua New Guinea on Wednesday.
