LAST Sunday’s tsunami warning sparked a mass evacuation of patients at Buala Hospital, Isabel.
The nation-wide warning was issued following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck near Kirakira, Makira-Ulawa Province, before 8am.
The Solomon Star witnessed the evacuation exercise at Buala hospital after the warning was issued on the national broadcaster.
A spokesman for the hospital said the exercise was carried out in accordance to the warning.
“It would be irresponsible of us not to evacuate the patients in light of the tsunami warning,” the spokesman said.
Buala hospital is located at the seafront so is vulnerable to big waves.
In Honiara, patients at the National Referral Hospital were evacuated to the grounds of the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA).
