Accused of violating council route rules
DRIVERS of 17 public buses accused of violating the Honiara City Council’s bus route regulations will face the Magistrate’s Court today.
Honiara City Council law enforcement officers arrested the bus drivers for traveling on shorter routes instead of the routes the council had put in place.
Head of the council’s Law Enforcement Division Robert Madeo confirmed to the Solomon Star of today’s court appearance.
He said since January this year, his officers arrested several buses and put them through the court.
Mr Madeo said that the operation to counter short bus routes is a continuing exercise.
“Our officers will continue to be out on the street to monitor the movement of public buses and ensure they keep to the rules,” he added.
Mr Madeo said at the end of the day, it’s the public that becomes the victim when bus drivers decided to break the law.
He said although his officers are out-numbered by the number of public buses, they’ll do their best to keep the drivers in check.
