A well-known business man was charged at the Magistrates court of Honiara last Friday after assaulting a 26 year old male at the XJ6 area December last year.
The incident was related to the National General Election on 19th November 2014.
Jennings Movobule, paid a fine of $500 to the state after he was found guilty of allegedly slapping a voter in his constituency after he found out the voter voted for the winning candidate.
Movobule is the owner of the popular second hand shop in the country XJ6 and a candidate that contested the North Vella La Vella constituency seat in last year’s national general election.
The court heard on Tuesday 9th December 2014 around 11am, the victim was heading to his work place after getting off from a public bus at the ITA bus stop and walked into the XJ6 clothing shop.
He then sensed that the environment is not welcoming and decided to visit another shop next to XJ6 clothing shop when he was approached by angry Movobule.
The accused then slapped him on his left ear with his right opened arm which led to the victim having listening problem after the incident.
It was believed that the businessman and some of his associates are behind the incident.
Ronald Dive of the Public Solicitors office represented the accused while Tebakota Iete appeared for the state.
