FORMER Honiara City Councilor (HCC) and Burns Creek community elder John Seti Iromea says the country needs to work closely with the police.
“All we need is to work together with our new Police Commissioner Mathew Varley and his officers to ensure our national security is intact,” Mr Iromea said.
He said this in light of the heated debate in the media and on social media on the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that is soon to be signed between the police and Indonesia National Police.
“We need to put off all negative thinking and work together with our Police Chief and the RSIPF,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said using such statement in the media and abusive word on social media to tarnish the reputation of someone who comes in to reconstruct the reputation of our Police force after the past crisis is pointless.
“Such comments would not solve issues but only trigger resentment therefore we need to respect each other when making comments.
“Ensuring police continue to curb down on crime cases in the country is important and that needs our collaboration and support for our Police force,” he added.
He also appeals to the public to stay calm and humble and let alone the responsible authorities to deal with such matter.
Apart from SI a number of Melanesian countries will also sign a deal with the Indonesia police.
