The Lauru Football Association (LFA) officially launched its Capital League 2025 over the weekend on Saturday – 10th May 2025, in Taro.
While the initial vision was to include clubs from across the province, a number of challenges—particularly financial—made this difficult.
The high cost of boat travel for teams based outside Taro is far more expensive than land transport.
Despite these challenges, 13 clubs have stepped forward to compete in this first Capital League.
A few determined clubs from outside Taro have joined, committing to the additional cost and travel involved.
Their dedication and passion for football have given them the strength to overcome these challenges—a testament to the love of the game.
There are challenges, but they remain focused on moving forward. I (as President) thanked them for their commitment to football and joining the capital league.
As part of our ongoing efforts, LFA has already begun identifying a provisional squad during last year’s “Battle of the Constituency” in preparation for the upcoming Solomon Cup.
However, the Capital League will also serve as a platform for identifying new talent.
All players have been encouraged to give their best and grasp the opportunity to impress selectors and potentially join the Lauru Kuvojo training squad.
This league also provides an opportunity for the local referees to apply the knowledge gained from the recent referee workshop.
The next workshop will focus on coaching, and club representatives are being encouraged to attend in order to gain basic knowledge to guide their clubs effectively.
Football clubs in the remote areas of the province are also encouraged to join the workshop.

LFA strongly encourages individuals and communities to initiate local football leagues within their respective wards. LFA is committed to supporting these active wards efforts in any way we can.
It is encouraging to see some communities already leading by example. One such community is Moli, which has successfully established its own league using local resources, said Jeffery Sipele LFA President.
“The effort taken is commendable and should serve as an example for other wards across the province.”
He also extended his gratitude to the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) for its financial support, which continues to play a vital role in sustaining football rollout in the Province.
“I express special thanks to the Choiseul Provincial Government, under the leadership of Hon. Premier Harrison Pitakaka, for recognising and supporting LFA’s initiatives and ongoing sports program.
“Your presence and the words you shared during the opening of the league not only demonstrated your leadership but also reaffirmed your commitment to football development in the province.
“Acknowledgement also goes to the MPA for Choiseul Bay Ward, the host Ward, and few Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) who have contributed financially to support their local clubs.
“Our thanks extend to the Office of the Sports Coordinator for their ongoing support and guidance as well.”
The president also thanked the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for organising and overseeing this league.
“Your commitment to the development of football is greatly appreciated.
“Sports, especially football, is a fundamental part of community development. When we speak of development, we must also speak of supporting our young men and women through sport—providing them with opportunities to grow, succeed, and make positive choices in life.
“More broadly, football is a powerful tool for social development. It offers individuals a platform to connect, develop life skills, and contribute to the wellbeing of our communities and the province as a whole. Even the spectators—those who gather to watch and cheer—are part of the football family.
“The sport helps break down barriers and foster unity across different groups. It cultivates leadership, promotes discipline, and helps build a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
“With those words, I encourage all communities to continue supporting sports and investing in our youth.
“Through initiatives like the Capital League and other sports activities, we can shape the future of our youth and strengthen the livelihoods of our communities,” he said.
