Concern is growing among residents in Gizo Western Province over careless littering by some business houses, with calls for stricter waste disposal policies to address the issue.
Several residents told the Solomon Star that rubbish continues to be dumped beside the main road by certain businesses, where it remains unattended for weeks.
They expressed frustration over the lack of action taken to resolve the problem.
The situation is reportedly worsening, with concerns raised about the apparent inaction of the Gizo Town Council in addressing the ongoing issue.
The accumulation of waste at a site near the new Simeon’s Video building has become an eyesore, drawing complaints from both locals and visitors.
Residents say the area is not only unsightly but also reflects poorly on the town’s image.
In addition, the growing heap of rubbish is attracting flies and raising health concerns, with fears that it could contribute to the spread of disease if left unmanaged.
The concern also target the public and individuals who threw rubbish at the spot.
Residents are now urging business owners to take responsibility by implementing proper waste disposal practices, while also calling on relevant authorities to enforce regulations to maintain cleanliness in Gizo.
