West New Georgia/Vonavona Constituency (WNG/VV) in Western Province on Thursday 28th August witnessed the arrival of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) supplies, the first of its kind after 35 years.
The large shipment arrived and were unloaded at Lambete Jetty in Munda.
The CDF backed projects and consignments included; kitchenware, BBQ plates, baker’s ovens, fiberglass boats for seaweed farmers, lightweight outboard motors, orange-colored Esky containers for lagoon fishers, mobile Lucas sawmills, roofing iron sheets, and other supplies.
The consignments were offloaded and transported to a warehouse and yard at Magaha village in nearby Dunde.
Dozens of young men volunteered throughout the day to assist with the unloading.
Voters in Munda and across Vonavona Lagoon have welcomed the delivery, describing it as “historic.”
Residents said, its the first time in almost 35 years that a CDF shipment has landed at Lambete Jetty in Munda.
“This is a very remarkable achievement and a historic one.”
They acknowledged their Member of Parliament (MP) for WNG/VV, Hon. George Temahua for the assistance.
“Thank you to our MP. We are so happy and proud,” a voter from Munda told the Solomon Star.
Communities around the constituency expressed excitement to finally benefit from the CDF, noting that WNG/VV has long hosted major national infrastructure but received little assistance in return.
The constituency is home to the Munda International Airport, Noro International Seaport, and the National Fisheries onshore processing facilities, including Soltuna Cannery.
These projects have generated billions of dollars for the national government over the years, yet successive MPs delivered very little through CDF to local communities.
Many have hailed the latest consignment as a boost for rural livelihoods, allowing both land and marine farmers to engage meaningfully in small-scale enterprise, income generation, and food security.
MP Temahua, who was elected a year ago, had pledged during his campaign to deliver meaningful assistance to rural communities.
The constituency covers four provincial wards: Ward 25 (Noro town), Ward 14 (Vonavona Lagoon), Ward 15 (including Lambete International Station, Kekehe, Kokeqolo, Kindu, and Tunuivili/Baeroko), and Ward 16 (Dunde and Nusa Roviana).
