THE Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) has condemned Wednesday’s knife attack on a prominent Honiara businessman, re-emphasizing security concerns for the business community and the continued trend of attacks.
SICCI Chair Jay Bartlett denounced the attack on veteran businessman John Lee, owner of Lee Kwok Kuen, describing the incident as a senseless act of crime that paints a negative image to the security of the Solomon Islands business environment.
“As a body representing our local businesses and the Solomon Islands private sector, we convey our sympathy to the victim and call for swift action against these disturbing acts,” Mr Bartlett said.
“Attacks to our local businesses does not help with confidence in our local market and can tarnish the image of our country internationally as an unsafe place to live, do business and travel,” he added.
Mr Bartlett called for cooperation from the public to assist police with their investigation.
Mr Lee was attacked by a man just after 7am on Wednesday when arriving at his business premises in Point Cruz.
The man attempted to steal his bag. During the confrontation Mr Lee received knife wounds to his body.
He was rushed to the National Referral Hospital for medical attention.
