A Malaita chief says the burning down of school classrooms by disgruntled electorates was an uncivilised act that must be condemned by all.
Chief Joshua Niutoto of east Malaita was reacting to the burning down of three locally built classrooms at Kwarea village by people unhappy about the November 19 election results.
“This type of action serves no purpose at all. And I don’t understand such behaviour,” Niutoto said.
“The election results have been declared, so what? If your candidate of choice loses, we just have to accept it.
“There’s no point destroying classrooms that cost as money and resources to build.
“Such behaviour must not be entertained in our communities.”
He called on the police to investigate the incident and arrest those concerned because they’ve committed the act of arson.
