THE Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Cai Weiming handed over SBD600,000 worth of medical equipment and medicines to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) Comprehensive Medical Centre (CMC) on Tuesday.
The official ceremony, held in front of the CMC, coincided with the farewell of the 3rd Chinese Medical Team (CMT) and the welcome of the 4th CMT.

He said these medical equipment and medical drugs will help the 4th CMT play a greater role in providing high quality medical services to the local population.
“These medicines include antimicrobial drugs for treatment of various infections. Ambassador Cai underscored health as one of the most important sectors of the PRC-SI bilateral cooperation since its establishment in 2019.
“China is committed to build a community of health for both our countries, which is part of the broader Chinese effort to promote a community of shared future for mankind.
“During the past five years, multiple Chinese assistance projects in the field of health and medical services have been implemented, enhancing the medical services in Solomon Islands, creating more benefits for the local population and tightening the bonds and friendship of our two countries.”
Ambassador Cai also took the opportunity to reiterate China’s commitment to sending its professional medical doctors to help the capacity-building of the health sector of Solomon Islands.
“Since 2022, three groups of China Medical Team have been sent to Solomon Islands to work closely with local doctors, providing close to 30,000 medical consultations, serving over 10,000 inpatients, and giving nearly 18,000 acupuncture treatments, saving the lives of hundreds of critically-ill patients.
“They also travelled to all nine provinces of Solomon Islands, providing medical services to the door-step of communities in remote villages, leaving behind countless touching stories.
“The newly arrived 4th China Medical Team will continue to provide high-quality medical services to local people, exchange professional knowledge and clinical skills with local medical staff, and help improve medical services to Solomon Islands people.”
