Jiangsu Province from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has donated two brand new Hilux to the Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) on Friday.
The gift marked a significant milestone under the Jiangsu-Malaita relations.
The handing over ceremony of the vehicles was attended by the Premier of Malaita Province, Hon. Elijah Asilaua, and other provincial leaders.
Premier Asilaua officially received the two vehicles during a brief handing over ceremony at the JQY Enterprises Warehouse in Lungga, East Honiara.
The handing over coincided with Malaita’s 42nd Anniversary as a province.
The event emphasized the theme of “Prosperity” and highlighted the province’s commitment to strengthening international ties.

His Excellency Cai Weiming, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Solomon Islands, congratulated the people of Malaita Province and stressed the importance of provincial cooperation and shared development goals.
“I am very happy to attend this donation ceremony. It is my pleasure to hand over two pickup vehicles from Jiangsu Province to Malaita Province to support provincial officials in enhancing mobility and service delivery.
“Today (Friday) also marks Malaita’s Second Appointed Day, and these vehicles are a gift from Jiangsu Province for this occasion, symbolizing the friendship between our two sister provinces.
“I would also like to extend my warm congratulations to Malaita Province on your 42nd Appointed Day Anniversary,” he said.
Premier Asilaua, speaking on behalf of the people of Malaita, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture.
“This is more than a symbol of friendship, respect, and shared progress. We thank the People’s Republic of China for standing with us as partners in development,” he stated.
He emphasized that the vehicles would enable provincial officers to reach remote communities more effectively, improving responsiveness and reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive service delivery.
The ceremony concluded with a shared call for unity, peace, and sustainable development, anchoring Malaita’s future in international and regional cooperation.
