In a significant milestone for educational cooperation between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Solomon Islands, 24 students were awarded the prestigious Chinese Ambassador Scholarship on Thursday at the University of the South Pacific (USP) Solomon Islands campus.
This marks the first time the scholarship has been presented locally.
The official handover ceremony, held at the King George USP campus, East Honiara, celebrated the academic achievements of the recipients, who are now registering and preparing for the upcoming academic term.
The scholarship aims to support these students in achieving their educational goals and alleviate financial burdens, ultimately fostering the next generation of leaders in the Solomon Islands.
His Excellency Cai Weiming, Ambassador of China to Solomon Islands, emphasized the importance of the scholarship during his speech at the ceremony.
“This event today is a testament to the friendship between China and Solomon Islands and embodies the sustainable development of our educational cooperation,” he said.
Ambassador Cai encouraged the students to dream big, highlighting their potential to shape the future of their nation.
“Young people are full of energy and dreams. Your spirit determines the future of the nation,” he remarked, urging recipients to fully engage in their studies.
Acting Director of USP Solomon Islands Clayton Kuma, also congratulated the scholarship recipients and expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for their support.
“A hearty congratulations to all the 24 students selected. I believe you will do your best in your studies, complete your courses, and contribute to the development of our happy isles,” Mr. Kuma stated, acknowledging the embassy’s investment in the youth of Solomon Islands.
The Chinese Ambassador Scholarship provides financial support directly to students’ accounts, reflecting an ongoing commitment to educational development and strengthening ties between China and the Solomon Islands.
