THE Cleaning up of the Chinatown will begin on Tuesday.
The Honiara City Council in collaboration with the Solomon Islands Government on Friday announced that the formal start date for the General Disaster Waste Clean-up on the locations destroyed during the last year’s Honiara Civil Unrest.
It stated that the Disaster Waste Clean-up was part of the HCCs overall response under the Honiara Civil Unrest Disaster Clean-up plan for 2021.
“It is a plan jointly developed by the HCC, NDMO, Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Health, Police Fire Rescue and other key disaster and waste management agencies,” the statement said.
According to the plan, the disaster Waste Clean-up has three phases comprising of six stage clean-up concepts.
Phase 1: Clean-up preparation that covers stages 1 and 2 of the concepts.
Phase 2: Clean-up of Disaster Wastes containing hazardous materials and general wastes.
Phase 3: Post clean-up. This covers stage 6 of the clean-up concept that will include Lessons Learnt Workshop that would also help to provide valuable lessons and recommendations to the development of the national Disaster Waste Management Plan.
A pre-clean up meeting and brief will take place today, 10am, at HCC.
Its is important that all property and business owners must attend to be made aware on the clean-up plan a responsibility of all involve.
