More than a thousand people gathered at the Roman Catholic Church in Buma Parish, West Kwaio Constituency, to celebrate Christmas Day with a special prayer Mass on Thursday morning.
The large turnout filled the church building to capacity, which forced many worshipers to sit outside as they joined the Mass to mark one of the most important days in the Christian calendar — the birth of Jesus Christ.
During the Mass, parish priest Fr. Gabriel reminded Christians that Christmas is a time for deep reflection on the birth of the Lord and Savior.
He emphasized that Christmas celebrates the coming of Jesus Christ, who was born to save humankind.
“Christmas is a day to remember the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, God’s only beloved Son,” Fr. Gabriel told the congregation.
“It is a time to reflect on faith, love, and salvation.”
Christmas Day in the Buma community was observed as a holy and peaceful occasion, with families spending time together in their homes. The atmosphere was calm and respectful, reflecting the significance of the day compared to ordinary days of the year.
After the Mass, church members mingled outside the parish grounds, greeting friends, wantoks, families, and community members.
Handshakes, smiles, and warm exchanges of “Merry Christmas” filled the area as people shared the sign of peace.
By the afternoon, worshippers gradually departed and returned to their respective homes, bringing the Christmas celebration at Buma Parish to a close in a spirit of unity and joy.
Most of the families have their own Christmas refreshment at their homes.
