Churches need to rise up to curb the rampant increase of domestic violence in the country.
Former Auditor General Edward Ronia made the statement when contributing to the Family Protection Act awareness workshop conducted for church leaders in Honiara last week.
He said the root cause of violence begins at homes because churches fail to play their role to bring change in the society.
“Thank God for police officers who have address what churches have failed to do, particularly to address domestic violence,” Ronia said.
He pointed out the message police officers are raising on the Family Protection Act was a wakeup call for the churches to demonstrate what God has intended the church to execute.
“Family issues have become rampant in various societies because churches compromised their position to preach the truth to bring radical change.”
Ronia said the root cause of violence is embedded in our families because there is lack of godly principles and values inbuilt in families.
“If we build our families on what God has orchestrated, our families will become strong and the nation will change” he said.
Deputy Police Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi acknowledged the sentiments Ronia expressed.
Manelusi said it is timely for the church to work together with the police, NGO’s and other organisations in the country.
“This nation is desperate for change and the church should play a pivotal role to make the change happen,” Manelusi said.
He said police are willing to work together with churches throughout the country to address issues affecting the nation.
