Honiara City Councilors attended an introductory session on Thursday, 21 August 2025, at the Iron Bottom Sound (IBS) Conference Room to learn about the Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement (CAUSE II) Project.
City Clerk, Mr. Justus Denni, opened the session with an inspirational message on behalf of the Council, encouraging councillors to seize opportunities to improve urban services and foster safer, cleaner, and more inclusive communities across the city.
The presentation was led by Mr. Cris Afable, Project Manager for CAUSE II, who, along with his team, provided an overview of the project’s goals, components, and expected benefits for Honiara and surrounding areas.
CAUSE II is a Government of Solomon Islands initiative led by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development in collaboration with Honiara City Council.
The project also involves the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey, as well as the Provincial Governments of Guadalcanal, Malaita, and Western Province.
The initiative is supported by the World Bank and the Australian Government through the Papua New Guinea and Pacific Islands Umbrella Facility Multi-Donor Trust Fund (PPIUF).
Councillors were briefed on how CAUSE II will support infrastructure improvements, enhance waste management systems, and create short-term employment opportunities through community works programs.
The project also emphasizes skills development and income-generation for youth, women, and vulnerable groups, aiming to build resilience and improve livelihoods.
The session concluded with councilors expressing strong support for the project’s implementation in Honiara and thanking the CAUSE II team for their detailed presentation. The initiative is expected to play a key role in strengthening urban services and promoting sustainable development across the city.
