A total of 28 local coaches and officials in Buala in Islabel province recently accredited with Oceania Sport Education Program (OSEP) last week in Buala Isabel province.
This was confirmed by the Solomon Islands National Institution of Sport (SINIS) over the weekend as a boost for the provincial sport development after the successful completion of the OSEP course.
The OSEP course was facilitated and conducted by the National Sports Council (NSC) which later concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony for 28 community coaches and officials undergone the OSEP course.
According to SINIS, the event took place at the Isabel Provincial Government (IPG) Assembly Hall in Buala, marking a significant milestone in advancing grassroots sports and recreation across the province.
Carlson Hagemana, NSC’s Sports and Recreation Development Officer (SRDO), in his key note speech he extended a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the newly accredited coaches for their time and effort during the course to its completion.
Hagemana acknowledged the presence of distinguished guests from the Isabel Provincial Government, including Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 9 Hon Nathaniel Gudfreade who is the Minister responsible for Provincial Health and Medical Services, the Isabel Acting Provincial Secretary Rex Manase and Senior Administration Officer for Community Affairs, Hubert Odikana.
Hagemana emphasized the importance of the certification, noting that the accreditation is recognized not only within Solomon Islands but throughout the Pacific region.
“You are not just volunteers anymore, you are officially recognized coaches, equipped to inspire and lead your communities through sports,” said Hagemana.
Hagemanafurther urged the coaches to use their newly acquired skills to organize sports activities such as soccer, netball and volleyball, fostering teamwork, discipline and positive leadership among the youth.
“Your role goes far beyond coaching skills, you are role models who have the power to create lasting change,” said Hagemana.
SINIS statement revealed that the Acting Provincial Secretary, Rex Manase, also delivered remarks on behalf of the Isabel Provincial Government, by acknowledging NSC’s vital role in supporting sports development and pledging ongoing partnership to elevate the province’s sports programs. PS Manase encouraged coaches to continue their commitment as sports ambassadors in their communities.
Meanwhile, the OSEP accreditation represents a key step forward in building a stronger, healthier and more united Isabel Province through sports.
NSC and IPG look forward to continued collaboration as these newly accredited coaches bring their passion and expertise back to their villages and communities.
