In the past week, a two-day awareness program focusing on community policing became a memorable event filled with laughter and learning, thanks to three of the Solomon Islands’ most famous comedians; Lang, Babasa, and Milky.
The comedy trio graced the occasion at the Youth Hub, Multi-Purpose Hall in Central Honiara, bringing an unique flavor to important discussions about public safety, health, family violence and community engagement.
The program, held on Tuesday and Wednesday was aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the police’s role in maintaining law and order while encouraging community cooperation.
Lang, Babasa, and Milky played a crucial role in this initiative, using their comedic talents to entertain the public while educating them about social issues.
Their performances included humorous skits that depicted domestic violence scenarios, cleverly crafted to provoke thought while delivering critical messages about family dynamics and community responsibility.
Many attendees expressed their delight in finally seeing the comedians in person, as, for most, it was their first encounter with the trio.
Having followed their antics online through social media, the live skits provided a refreshing experience, drawing laughter and engagement from the audience.
The event attracted public, mostly students and various members of the Honiara community, all eager to participate in the discussions surrounding public safety.
The venue buzzed with activity as different divisions of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), along with various stakeholders and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), set up informative booths. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with police officers, gaining valuable insights into their daily functions and roles within the community.
Keynote speakers and community elders took to the stage to share poignant testimonies, emphasising the importance of public cooperation in crime prevention and community safety.
The atmosphere was one of collaboration as discussions unfolded, highlighting how stronger ties between law enforcement and citizens can enhance the quality of life in Honiara.
Assistant Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga opened the program on Tuesday with a call for unity and collective action, stating; “Our relationship with the community is vital. Together, we can create a more peaceful Honiara, where everyone feels safe to live and work.”
