ADVENTIST teachers within the Trans Pacific Union (TPU) of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church will be commemorating 150 years of Adventist Education in two weeks’ time.
TPU covers the regional countries of Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.
As part of the event a special program will be organised on Saturday June 4 to mark this event where teachers and members of the church congregation will reflect on the journey that Adventist education and teachers have endured over the past century.
A statement from TPU Education Office in Fiji said 2022 is a special year for Adventist Education, reaching 150 years – be part of the celebration.
The theme for the celebration is: We have nothing to fear for the future.
The statement said the purpose and focus of Adventist Education have been twofold: training for mission and leading to redemption.
“Today Adventist Education spans the globe and is the largest Protestant educational system in the world but our strength lies not in our size but our focus; practical that is both redemptive and evangelistic,” the statement said.
TPU Education Office in Honiara said a team is planning on a program to be staged during that weekend.
Joseph Pitakia, the TPU education representative in Solomon Islands, said a program is being prepared for that weekend where teachers and members of the church will reflect on the challenges and achievements of Adventist Education in this country.
“Yes, our team is planning a special Sabbath. “A team is working on a 3min video clip on our educational history that will be put together with histories from TPU to be played on the Sabbath program,” Mr Pitakia said.
A local solo artist has composed a song for TPU that will go with other resources for the Sabbath worship, he added.
The Associate Education Director is also working with school leaders and local church leaders to help prepare for the event.
