The ministry of culture and tourism in partnership with the Live and Learn International non-government organisation have successfully carried out a tourism awareness last week in Isabel.
Some of the communities which covered were Bolitei and Ghoveo and its surrounding communities in Baolo, Zuzuao, Toelegu, Sisiga and Sosoilo.
The program was organised under the Live and Learn ‘Tugeda, tude fo tumoro project’ for better inclusive sustainable natural resources management.
A statement from the ministry said some of these communities are involved in logging and are looking for alternative economic opportunities that conserves the environment, empowers gender equality and encourages sustainable livelihood.
“The awareness on tourism emphasis on protecting local resources such as the natural and cultural resources as well as strengthening supporting linkages in agriculture, fisheries and manufacturing to support the tourism industry.”
The awareness also highlighted important decisions for future operators to consider before operating any tourism related businesses, the statement said.
The ministry said it is pleased to work with the Live and Learn to acknowledge the need to strengthen linkages and partnerships for a better developed tourism industry in Solomon Islands.
