Dear Editor – I am writing to express my concern over the lack of transparency in the use of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) in the Solomon Islands.
Every year, millions of dollars are allocated to Members of Parliament, yet many communities still lack basic services like clean water, proper roads, and clinics.
This raises serious questions about how these funds are being used and whether they are reaching the people who need them most.
As a DG100 student studying Leadership, Governance, and Human Rights, I urge the government to prioritize transparency and accountability.
Therefore, regular audits and public reports must be conducted and communities should be involved in decision-making to reflect real needs.
Furthermore, it is also crucial that these funds are distributed equally to communities to ensure that development projects are relevant, inclusive, and sustainable.
Therefore, leaders must go beyond promises and develop innovative policies that truly serve the needs of all Solomon Islanders.
Sincerely,
Richard Lakwoly
