THE consumer affairs and price control department of the Ministry of Commerce has been carrying out regular checks in Honiara shops.
Director Geoffrey Dan Hou’ua said, his department officials are using three days every week to check goods in shops.
A number of complaints have been raised in the recent past by consumers about shops selling expired goods and the unregulated increase of goods prices.
But Mr Hou’ua explained that the recent discovery of foreign objects in canned goods is not in their rounds.
“It is not our task. We do our regular checks, but reports of foreign objects found in canned goods are issues for health authorities.
“We ensure goods on shop shelves are fit for human consumption in terms of the expiry and also check for price of goods.”
