PERMANENT SECRETARY of the Ministry of Home Affair says the recent handing over of the International standard Boxing Ring to the Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Federation (SIABF) this week is a first step of fulfillment of the DCC government’s pledged to sporting federations in the country.
George Palua made the comments when he handed over a Boxing Ring worth SBD$210,000 to the SIABF on Thursday in Honiara.
“This Ring is an international standard Ring, and it’s very important for SIAFB development,” Palua said.
He said the recent statement made by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare during the 2015 Team Solomon’s award night at the Honiara Hotel that athletes will train on international standard facilities, is now progressing.
“This is part of the DCCG objective to equip our athletes with International standard facilities.”
He also stressed that other Sports Federations will soon receive support from government as well.
“We are doing our best to support sports in the country.
“At this point of time it’s for Boxing.
“For other sporting federations, your turns are coming up.”
Meanwhile President of the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) Martin Rara urged the SIABF and whoever will use the Boxing Ring and other associated gears to look after them.
“I would like to urge those who will use this “very valuable” equipment to be responsible when using them.”
