SOLOMON Islands will soon export seaweed directly to China.
This was an assurance statement made by the Prime Minister of the country, Jeremiah Manele when he was speaking in the parliament on Monday.
This is good news for the seaweed farmers who lived in the rural parts of the country.
This month a delegation from the government will travel to China to discuss about seaweed with relevant stakeholders the possibility to export seaweed from Solomon Islands to China.
“I am happy that the delegation of government officials and seaweed exporters will be travelling to china this month to meet with relevant stakeholders there to ensure that we can start exporting seaweed directly to China,” said Prime Minister Manele.
He added this would be a major revenue earner for our rural seaweed farmers.
“We are an island nation and we must ease our geographical feature to our advantage,” he further added.
Seaweeds are used for food, cosmetic, fertilizer and for the extraction of industrial gums and chemicals.
