Students of Ngalimbiu primary school in North Guadalcanal can now enjoy a much more conducive environment to learn after carpentry students from Don Bosco Henderson helped to renovate part of the old classroom blocks recently.
Martha Rex, headmistress of Ngalibiu primary school said the students and staff are so excited with the latest development because they students can now enjoy their studies in a new and permanent clean classrooms.
“The staff and students of Ngalibiu primary school are happy to have new and permanent clean classrooms. Thanks to the students of Don Bosco Henderson who renovated one block of 3 classrooms during the half-yearly break in July, and another block of three classrooms during the one-week break of September”
She went on to say; “The parents and the community will always remember the love and care of Don Bosco.”
The students of DonBosco Henderson received materials through the help of Salesian Missions, Australia. Since they were too busy with their school curriculum, the only time that could be used was during the term breaks. They did so generously, and did their job efficiently.
Mr. George Oge who was leading the team of students said,his group helped to fix some of the old walls, doors and window nets.
“We renovated two blocks of 3 classroom each, removing the damaged walls and putting new ones, along with new doors and netting for the windows to prevent birds in the classrooms.”
One of the students said the newly painted classrooms look very nice.
“Two coats of paint make the classrooms as good as new. We have 18 students who volunteered to sacrifice part of our holidays,” said Jayson Paeni.
He went on to say, “We feel happy that we could use our talents and learning to help a community”.
For Ms Alison Billy, teacher of early childhood education (ECE) she said; “Don Bosco boys were more professional than the carpenters and builders we have seen. They worked so hard, even late into the evening, always with a smile. They did the work in three days! We bless them and may God make them great”.
