Solomon Islands and Naha FC goalkeeper Zianab Donga has been awarded the Golden Glove at the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2025, capping off a remarkable debut campaign that saw the Solomon Islands Women’s National Team claim their first-ever title in the tournament’s history.
Donga, 24, was instrumental in her team’s fairy-tale run, delivering a string of standout performances between the posts, including crucial saves in the final against Papua New Guinea.
Her efforts earned her the prestigious individual award, presented to the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
“This is a new experience for me and I am so happy to receive this OFC Golden Glove award. Huge thanks to everyone,” Donga said after the grand final win on Saturday night in Suva.
“I am proud of myself and proud of the girls as well for today’s victory. I really wanted to make history — and finally, it happened.”
Donga’s football journey is as inspiring as her recent success. She began her career as a forward, representing her province Malaita in the Girls U-16 category.
Eventually transitioning to goalkeeper, she has since established herself as the first-choice shot-stopper for the senior women’s national team.
Her transformation from an outfield player to a tournament-winning goalkeeper is a testament to her adaptability, determination, and talent, qualities that now make her one of the rising stars in Solomon Islands football.
Meanwhile, the girls landed at Henderson Airport on Sunday morning to a heroines welcome, greeted by hundreds of fans, families, and officials upon their return.
