The Magistrate Court from Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court has sentenced two youths in their 20s for stealing about ten thousand dollars from a victim at Sepi village in Isabel province during a court circuit in Buala recently.
Two young men, ages 18 and 19, have been sentenced for the offense of simple larceny contrary to section 261 (1) of the penal code and pled guilty for the offense committed.
Police investigations revealed before the court that the duo stole an amount of $9,700.00 from a victim’s residence.
The complainant later discovered the missing money and, after making inquiries, reported the matter to Tataba police for investigation.
During the recent court circuit, the defendants appeared before the magistrates, where both pleaded guilty to the offense.
They were each sentenced to six months imprisonment to be served at the Rove Correctional Centre in Honiara.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Isabel Province Inspector Harry Vanosi said that anyone who chooses to steal or disrespect the property of others will face the full force of law.
PPC Vanosi said such behavior not only destroys trust among the communities but also brings bad reputations to the communities.
“Appeal to all young youth to choose the right path. Respect others. Honest and contribute positively in our communities.”
