THE Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA) is urging customers and container truck drivers to book their containers in advance to ensure faster processing and smoother deliveries.
This move aims to reduce traffic congestion at the Port as cargoes and shipments arrive from overseas.
To streamline operations, SIPA has commissioned a new automated Ports Overhead Exit Gatehouse, equipped with a modern system to expedite container clearance.
However, customers must pre-book their slots and submit the necessary documents before their containers can be cleared for departure.
The new exit gate, officially launched last week by SIPA CEO George Rausi at the SIPA Point Cruz port, is designed to prevent bottlenecks when containers arrive from international shipments.
Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Special Project Manager (SPM) Ellison Pade explained that the upgraded system will speed up the delivery process—but only if customers follow the new procedure.
“We have installed a modern system at the new exit gate, and we encourage all customers to make advance bookings to clear their containers and cargo efficiently,” said Pade.
Under the new process:
1. Customers must book their containers first to secure priority handling.
2. Required documents must be submitted before the containers can be released.
The exit gate features automated operation, allowing SIPA Officers to press a button to open the gate once clearance is completed.
SIPA has now implemented a dual-gate system (entry and exit) to optimise traffic flow and minimise congestion at the port.
