Eight Solomon Islanders have been recognised for their service in health, education, policing and religion.
His Excellency Governor General Sir David Tiva Kapu announced the New Year’s Honours at the conclusion of his New Year’s address over the national broadcaster.
He said, the 2026 New Year’s Honours was approved by King Charles III to award citizens who have made significant contributions to community, faith, education and national security.
The approved categories of awards and recipients are as follows;
Pastor Lawrence Gilmore Peter Tanabose was appointed Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) for his service to the Seventh‑day Adventist Church locally and internationally.
Dr. Leanne Ross Panisi received the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for work in public health and clinical services.
Dr. Silent Tovosia was honoured for contributions to education, health and church leadership.
Other recipients included; Mr. Alan Ketei Siosi, COC, named Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for educational excellence and community development, and Father Elson Vurevahi for service to the Anglican Church.
Community service and policing were also recognised.
Ms. Betty Dick received the British Empire Medal (BEM) for workplace hygiene and volunteering.
Assistant Commissioner Mathias Lenialu was honoured for his role in national security, while Chief Superintendent Francis Ramoni received the King’s Police Medal (KPM) for distinguished service in policing.
Governor General Kapu said the honours reflected the breadth of contributions made by Solomon Islanders across faith, education, health and security.
“These awards remind us that service to community and nation is the highest calling,” he said.
