THE 50 newly elected Members of Parliament (MP) will elect the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker after taking their oaths at 10am today.
At the close of nomination at 4pm yesterday, two persons have been nominated for Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s post.
They are long serving clerk to Parliament, Taeasi Sanga and former Premier of Renbel, Ajilon Jasper Nasiu for the Speaker’s post.
While MP for Baegu Asifola, David Tome and Central Honiara MP John Moffat Fugui are candidates for Deputy Speaker.
Acting Clerk, Florence Naesol confirmed receiving their nominations of these four candidates.
She said, Ms Sanga had tended her resignation yesterday after she was nominated as candidate for the Speaker’s post.
Sanga was nominated by Opposition Leader, Jeremiah Manele and Independent Leader, Manasseh Maelanga.
While, Nasiu was nominated by Douglas Ete of Government side.
Tome was nominated by the Opposition, while Stanley Sofu of Government side nominated Fugui.
Resigned Speaker, Sir Allen Kemakeza will preside over both elections today.
