Police at Guadalcanal have arrested a man in his 30s following a fatal accident which a man was run over by a vehicle at West Guadalcanal at Asifarongo road on Tuesday morning.
It was alleged that the accused driver was travelling westward from Honiara town, when he hit something at the main road, while driving through the Asifarongo road.
Police investigation revealed the driver stopped and checked what he had hit and saw a body lying on the main road. The accused immediately brought the body back to the Honiara National referral hospital where the deceased was pronounced dead b medical authority.
Honiara Traffic Director Paul Bulu urged the general public, especially those living in the outskirts of Honiara and Guadalcanal town, to be mindful of the way they treat the main roads.
“Today people are so reluctant to think of giving way to motor vehicles and use the main roads as a sleep way or resting site from a long walk.
“The deceased is allegedly thought to have been sleeping on the main road when the collision occurred and police is carrying out its investigation accordingly, to find more evidence thoroughly.”
Police had arrested and charged the suspect to appear in court at the Honiara Magistrate court and the deceased body has been with relatives.
