Solomon Water officially received the upgraded White River Reservoir site in West Honiara on Monday.
This marked the successful completion of fencing and civil works to secure and protect one of Honiara’s water storage facilities.
The opening ceremony, held on-site at Upper White River, was attended by representatives from Solomon Water, the Australian High Commission, local contractor Hatanga Ltd, and members of the surrounding community.
In his remarks, Solomon Water CEO Carmine Piantedosi thanked partners for their collaboration and commitment to improving water infrastructure in the capital.
CEO Piantedosi went on to further reiterate that the project secured our storages, ensuring reliability and security of water supplies to communities.
The White River Reservoirs, with a combined storage capacity of up to 1 Megalitre, now benefit from perimeter fencing to reduce the risk of vandalism, theft, and contamination.
Civil works at the site included slope stabilization through the construction of a retaining wall, improvements to road access, and enhanced site accessibility.
Funded by Australia, the works were delivered by Hatanga Ltd following an open competitive tender process.

This project is part of a broader initiative that includes similar fencing upgrades at West Kolaridge and Lengakiki Reservoirs, reinforcing Solomon Water’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure resilience.
Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency Rod Hilton, reaffirmed Australia’s ongoing support to water and sanitation improvements in the Solomon Islands.
“Australia is committed to working with local contractors to create local jobs and deliver projects that directly benefit communities; this is just one example.”
Hatanga’s Project manager for the Project, Madi Kwalea mentioned.
“18 new jobs were created from this project, with 70% coming from within the Tasahe/White River community. The project’s workforce also included 4 recently graduated apprentices from SINU.”
Following the official ribbon cutting, guests were taken on an informal site walk before closing the event with light refreshments.
Solomon Water remains committed to improving value, improving services, and improving for the future – all aimed at delivering its vision of “Safe water for a healthy nation.”
