Suva (Fiji Times) – NEW ZEALAND-based striker Roy Krishna will lead Fiji in friendly internationals matches against Tonga and American Samoa.
Krishna, 27, plays for the Wellington Phoenix in the Australian A-League.
Powerhouse Ba, Nadi, Rewa and Suva have four players each in the national training squad announced on Wednesday. Vanuatu-based defender Samu Kautoga and striker Osea Vakatalesau have also been included in the squad.
The national team will host Tonga on August 19 at Govind Park in Ba and American Samoa at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on August 27.
National football team director Tarunesh Reddy said the international friendlies would help improve Fiji’s international rankings.
“We had lot of commitment during the year and after the completion of the Pacific Games, we are now concentrating on our senior national team,” he said.
Reddy said the visiting teams requested for the friendly internationals to be held in the Western Division.
He said Fiji was likely to play more international friendlies ahead of the Pacific Nations Cup in May, 2016.
“We have plans for some more tours before the Pacific Nations Cup. So we have lined up three more tours.
“We are also in the process of arranging to play more international matches in the Asian countries as the FIFA window opens next month,” he said.
The Vodafone-sponsored national team will march into camp on August 12.
