HONG KONG , ( FIJI TIMES) – Three Fijian rugby touch players were arrested and charged with robbery in Hong Kong earlier this week, the Hong Kong police have confirmed.
The three men aged 20, 26 and 29 were part of the Browning Bombers touch rugby team that was invited to be part of the ANZ International Touch Championships.
They were the special guest team to challenge the best in the Asian touch community.
Hong Kong police allege the men, on May 10, snatched a local woman’s handbag worth $HK15,000 ($3929) containing cash $HK5000 ($1309) and a tablet.
The matter was reported to police and the handbag was found outside the hotel the team was billeted at.
Police said they conducted a raid on the hotel and arrested the Fijian nationals.
They were charged and appeared in court on Tuesday. Police said they were kept in custody. Browning Bombers executives refused to comment on the matter. One official said they had yet to inform the families of the players.
