Steven Sete sent Nguvia Community High School (CHS) from Guadalcanal Plans into celebration after claiming the school’s first gold medal at the 2025 Solomon Islands Secondary School Games (SISSG25).
Competing in the senior boys 400m final at the National Stadium on Wednesday, July 4, Sepe crossed the line in dominant fashion with a time of 52.98 seconds.
Remarkably, the win comes in his debut appearance at the Games — and his first time competing in athletics.
“This is my first time in the Games and also my first athletics competition. I only trained for about a week, and I’m super proud to win my school’s first-ever gold medal,” said the proud Form 4 student.
Sete added that the victory has inspired him to pursue athletics more seriously and continue building his career in the sport.
In the closely contested final, Sete edged out Nyson of Waimapuru, who clocked 53.53 seconds to take silver, while Martin of Selwyn College claimed bronze.
