VURA community high school, east Honiara is taking the lead in reviving the daily flag rising custom in a ceremony yesterday morning.
This is part of the DCC Government through the endorsement of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) to revive the daily flag rising as a national identity in every school in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, school principal Allen Ketei said, the event was one of the special occasions in the school program.
“What makes this day so special and significant is the reviving of the national flag rising of our beloved country Solomon Islands.
“It is like a new dawn, a new seed, a new flag, new feelings of respect and honour towards each other, our God and nation,” he said.
Mr Ketei also stated in his speech that from yesterday’s event and onwards, Vura school is proud to raise the national flag with the rest of the schools in the country.
In his speech yesterday, Honiara City Council (HCC) Chief Education Officer Wayne Koebule said, the ceremony is yet another important event to which the country’s national identity is taught to children of this nation.
“…This event has not been practiced for quiet a good number of years within Honiara schools.
“As citizens of a sovereign nation Solomon Islands, the flag represents our identity as a nation. Thus, when we hoist the flag, we are telling others that we are proud that we belong to a nation,” Koebule said.
The school principal wishes to acknowledge the national government through the ministry of National Unity Reconciliation and Peace, MEHRD, HCC education division, and Scouts association Solomon Islands for making the ceremony successful yesterday.
