FORMER Member of Parliament (MP) for Malaita Outer Islands (MOI) Constituency and prominent businessman, Mr. Martin Kealoe passed away at the National Referral Hospital (NHR) after a long illness.
The sad news of the MOI political leader’s passing came early Thursday morning.
Upon learning of his death, the MOI Constituency issued a heartfelt condolence message via its official Facebook page, honouring their former leader.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our former Member of Parliament, Mr. Martin Kealoe, who passed away this morning at the National Referral Hospital.
“He served the people of MOI with dedication and commitment, and his leadership will be remembered with gratitude and respect,” the statement read on Thursday.
Hailing from Ontong Java Atoll in Malaita Province, the late Mr. Kealoe was first elected to the National Parliament for MOI Constituency on 4th August 2010 and was re-elected on 19th November 2014.
During his tenure, he held several key parliamentary committee appointments, including:
– Member of the Public Accounts Committee (2011–2014)
– Member of the Parliamentary House Committee (2010–2014)
– Member of the Foreign Relations Committee (2010–2014)
– Member of the Environment and Conservation Committee (2014)
Born on 27th October 1969, Mr. Kealoe would have turned 56 this year.
Friends, colleagues, and constituents have expressed their condolences to his family during this difficult time.
