Four Solomon Islanders will travel to Japan after they were awarded with the 2025 Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship to study this year.
Three of the recipients will travel on Wednesday, 2nd April.
Since 1993, the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship has benefited many Solomon Islanders who were able to study different fields including science, education, dentistry, environmental sciences, Information Technology, engineering and more.
On Monday 31st March, the Ambassador of Japan to Solomon Islands His Excellency Keiichi Higuchi held a final briefing with the recipients at the Embassy. During the briefing, Ambassador Higuchi congratulated and encouraged them to quickly settle in after their arrival in Japan and always seek assistance whenever they need help.
The three scholarship recipients are Mr. Nyrick Detky, Ms. Herica Kwaimasia and Virginia Apui.
Mr. Detky is a Research Student, studying for his masters degree in Food Function Analysis at Tohoku University.
Ms. Kwaimasia another Research Student, will also be pursuing her masters degree in Nutritional Science at Kyoto University.
Ms. Apui an undergraduate student will be pursuing an electrical engineering degree at a university designated by the government of Japan after her arrival in Japan.
During the briefing, the recipients conveyed their gratitude to the Ambassador H.E Keiichi Higuchi for the opportunity given to them by the Japanese Government in awarding them the scholarships to study in Japan.
The recipients also assured the Embassy that they will do their best to achieve the skills and qualifications they will pursue under the scholarship provided.
They will not only study their specialized courses but also look forward to learning the Japanese culture and visiting other parts of Japan.
Both research students plan to return after the completion of their respective research programs to help contribute to the development of Solomon Islands utilizing their specific knowledge and skill.
While the Undergraduate scholarship recipient plans to pursue further studies before returning to Solomon Islands.
The three students will leave for Japan today Wednesday 2nd April 2025 to begin their academic studies in their respective universities.
The remaining student will be joining them later this year in October.
